Cadogan Hall’s Out to Lunch series is one of London’s best-kept summer secrets. For six weeks during the summer, the Culford Room (the venue’s foyer) transforms into a hub of jazz performances on Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes, offering a refreshing experience for both regulars and newcomers alike.
A Brief History of the Series
Rebecca Stewart, Concerts Manager at Cadogan Hall, initiated the series 13 years ago as a way to utilize the foyer space during the day when it would otherwise be empty. Initially, the events featured a mix of classical chamber music, singer-songwriter sessions, author talks, and even a dance class. However, the jazz events stood out as the most popular, leading to jazz becoming the sole focus of the series.
The Out to Lunch series has since become an excellent platform for smaller ensembles, new and experimental projects, and established artists alike, showcasing their creative ideas and talent.
What to Expect in 2023
This year’s series boasts an impressive lineup, with some first-time and returning performers. Highlights include:
- Tara Minton’s “Two for the Road” on 10th August
- Pianist Phil Merriman on 27th July
- Vocalist Lulu Pierre on 15th August
- Nick Costley White on 20th July
- Sophie Alloway on 3rd August
- Rob Barron on 1st August
Whether you’re a regular customer of Cadogan Hall, have just discovered it, or have never listened to jazz before, these events offer a lovely opportunity to try it out. Grab a drink and snack from the bar, make a few new friends, and enjoy some incredible jazz musicians.
